Integrated Education and Training: Partnering to Prepare Clients for Workforce Success

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than one million Michigan residents lack basic education credentials.

Without a high school diploma or equivalent, chances of finding gainful employment – let alone a sustainable career – are slim.

How can you tap into this harder-to-serve labor pool and move them into the talent pipeline?

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) provides cutting-edge training opportunities through Integrated Education and Training (IET) – an Adult Education and workforce development program model that provides basic skills instruction and occupational training concurrently rather than sequentially to move clients along career pathways quicker.

The opportunity also includes money designated for supporting existing programs or developing training aspects of IET.

Join us to gain a better understanding of the IET model and how it can be utilized in current Career Pathways strategies.

Time will be allotted for partners to talk across systems and within regions to assess local needs and leverage local resources and expertise. Topics may include:

  • What high growth sectors and occupations have been identified in your WIOA plan?
  • What do you know about training and credentials required to enter the identified occupational pathway(s)?
  • What types of supports would your students/clients need in order to succeed in the training?
  • How might an IET help you meet performance outcomes for students/clients – especially those with barriers to employment?
  • What changes in program staffing, operations, interagency collaborations, etc., would be necessary to implement an IET locally?

Make the most of this training - encourage your local providers to join you in this conversation!
