BSPs are the number one resource for customers on business expansion and incentives, accessing talent and training a workforce.


State and federal funding streams, state agencies, education, economic and workforce development, and entities throughout the state whose mission it is to contribute to economic vitality.

Many are active, although not widely known outside of certain circles.

Today's business world is not static and neither is the BSP program. 

Since its inception, the program has graduated over 1,000 BSPs, with 50% having been fully certified. That speaks to the value of the program. But the needs of today's business leaders are not the same as when the program began, so we've infused the BSP program with new energy. Participates will benefit from updated content, new resources and enhanced learning opportunities to reflect different audiences, a different economy and new ways of learning, connecting and growing.

In other words, this is not your father's BSP.

Training will include a mix of lecture, group discussion / activities, case studies and a capstone project.

NEW: To maximize classroom time, pre-requisite work will help ensure everyone begins the cohort with a shared understanding of the principles. Materials will be provided upon registration and are to be completed prior to the first meeting.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be submitted in writing up to three (3) business days prior to the training to receive a full refund. Cancellations received less than three (3) business days prior to the training will be invoiced, and payments will not be refunded. No shows will be billed. Substitutions are welcomed.

Mike Polzin is Associate Professor Emeritus in the School of Human Resources and Labor Relations at Michigan State University. He has been engaged in workforce, economic and organizational development for over thirty years and co-developed the Business Solutions Professional Certification curriculum.

Janie McNabb


Janie McNabb has worked in various capacities for the Michigan Works! system for more than 20 years, including developing, executing, and managing innovative initiatives to meet the needs of employers, job seekers, and local communities. She previously served as Chief Operating Officer for the Michigan Works! agency in the Northwest region, and now works with multiple workforce agencies around the state. She is committed to a leadership approach that enables skilled, empowered frontline staff, quality management, and insightful leadership.
