Apprentice Success Story

We held our first official Race 2 Talent on Sept. 25 where 48 attendees, including 4 employers enjoyed a historic presentation by Roush and a panel discussion lead by subject matter experts in the engineering, college administration, electric vehicle, and workforce development industries. Honored attendees included Caryn Shannon, Southeast MichiganRegional Director, Office of U.S. Senator Gary C. Peters; Krista Johnson, Deputy Director, Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity, Workforce Development; Scott Jedele, State Apprenticeship Expansion Manager; and Greg Pitoniak, CEO of Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA).

Roush Industries, located in Livonia Michigan will be upskilling 50 incumbent workers over the next 12 months in partnership with School craft College on EV Manufacturing. Courses will include 8courses of EV related training including EV Propulsion Systems, EV Charging and EV Thermal Management.

The program will be funded by the State of Michigan’s EV Jobs Academy and cost $275,000. Several recruited Metal Fabricator apprentices are or have been part of the ALICE population, locally. SEMCA has funded 13 apprentices through the Closing the Skills Gap grant in the past, totaling $13,000 for RTI reimbursements, and 3 apprentices through the Going Pro Apprenticeship grant for OJT reimbursements, totaling $5,196.50.
