Apprentice Success Story

Ryan McCuddy is beaming with excitement after overcoming an employment barrier which will help him to remain employed, all thanks to BRES (Barrier Removal Employment Services) funding. For the past six months, Ryan has been diligently working as a machinist apprentice at Grotnes, a manufacturer located in Niles, Mi.

Unfortunately, Ryan’s older model of car was stolen, and when it was recovered, it had been totaled, leaving Ryan in a difficult spot. He relied on a family member to loan him a vehicle, but it too was also on its last legs.

This left Ryan in a difficult position as the lack of reliable transportation put his employment and apprenticeship training at risk.

Thankfully, Grotnes had a partnership with Michigan Works! and Ryan remembered what his case manager had told him when they first met- “We are here to help you succeed with your apprenticeship goals. If you encounter any challenges on the way, just reach out for help.” So, Ryan decided to reach out.

His case manager Aida was thrilled to hear from him and quickly got to work. With persistence from both Ryan and Aida, Michigan Works was able to secure funding for Ryan to purchase a reliable vehicle, allowing Ryan to continue his apprenticeship training without further worries. It also helped Grotnes to retain a valuable employee!

This story is not just about a new car; it's about the power of partnership, as well as a testament to Ryan's hard work and determination to succeed.

Now, Ryan can fully focus on achieving his goals as both an apprentice and an employee!
